Thanks, mapgirl!

All it took was a job change and a new employer to get that job with the skills I already had!

Amazing, isn't it? Of course, setting incremental goals which are attainable also helps, too...

Did you know while in school that you had no interest in the career you were pursuing or did it occur after some years in the field?

Lord. I had no CLUE. I'm still glad I went to college -- it's value is more than monetary. And as a credential, it's necessary if you don't want to relegated to certain types of jobs.

Your friend's very wise to realize the career he trained for is not a good fit. You have no idea how many people hang on, thinking that things will change and get better.

This is so true. I was recently out with a friend who is looking for a career change. She made a comment that she had applied for an entry level HR position but couldn't stomach the entry-level pay of $47,000. I just gaped at here - I would love to earn that!

I have another friend who spends as if she is earning big bucks but then can't afford groceries. She feels the pressure to keep up with everyone else, when it would be better if she just said "let's pick somewhere cheaper".

GOOD FOR YOU! That's great! A little under 2 years ago I made the decision to make $60k a year. I thought it would take me 3 years of work and classes to achieve that. All it took was a job change and a new employer to get that job with the skills I already had!

Goal setting is important. It keeps your career moving right along!
